# Connecting MCP Servers

> Scope MCP servers to the projects that need them instead of dumping every tool into one global runtime.

MCP configuration is most useful when it stays explicit and scoped.

## Good defaults

Use shared defaults only for truly universal tools. Put project-specific MCP servers inside the project definition so the runtime remains predictable.

## First things to verify

* command path
* environment variables
* project scope

Most MCP issues come from those three areas, not from the protocol itself.
